How to republish our stories during AAPI Heritage Month

We’re allowing you to republish three of The Yappie’s longform articles that were made possible by the Solutions Journalism Network – as long as you follow some basic guidelines.

The Yappie is proud to be part of a diverse cohort of newsrooms launching reporting projects as part of the Solutions Journalism Network’s Advancing Democracy initiative. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, we rolled out three longform articles which may be republished for free, as long as you follow some basic ground rules.

What you can do

You may republish all text and hyperlinks in a story online, as long as you abide by the terms stated below.

You must credit The Yappie in the following ways:

  • In the byline, we prefer “Author Name, The Yappie” with a link to theyappie.com.
  • At the top of the text of the story, you must place a prominent line that reads: “This story was originally published on [DATE] by The Yappie. Sign up here to receive The Yappie‘s essential briefing on Asian American + Pacific Islander politics and support their work by making a donation.”
  • The words “originally published” must link back to the URL of our version of the story, not our homepage. You must preserve the hyperlinks to our sign-up page and donation link.
  • At the end of the story, you must include the text: “The Yappie (theyappie.com) is a nonpartisan publication fiscally sponsored by the Asian American Journalists Association and dedicated to tracking Asian American and Pacific Islander power, politics, and influence.”

You may not edit, cut, or alter a story, except to suit your in-house style. All original hyperlinks, including calls to action from The Yappie, must be retained.

You agree to let us know when you use our work by sending an email to [email protected]. Any site our stories appear in must also have a prominent and effective way to contact you. If we send you a request to remove our story, you must do so immediately.

You agree to provide data on views, shares, and other analytics for a story you republish upon request.

If you share, republish, or link to our stories on social media, please tag us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook and note that the story was originally published by The Yappie in the text of the post.

  • Website: theyappie.com
  • Twitter: twitter.com/theyappie
  • Instagram: instagram.com/theyappie
  • Facebook: facebook.com/theyappie

If you wish to publish a story in print or via any other medium, please email Andrew Peng ([email protected]).

We reserve the right to deny, revoke or limit the rights conveyed herein for any reason, including (but not limited to) instances in which these conditions are not met or the reproduced material is not presented in a responsible manner.

What you can’t do

You may not engage in the wholesale republication of The Yappie’s work, but rather must select individual stories for republication. Only the text and hyperlinks of the three longform articles specified above may be republished – all other content produced by The Yappie is off limits.

  • You may not republish The Yappie’s photographs, illustrations, and graphics without additional permission. If you would like to republish story elements other than text, please contact Shawna Chen ([email protected]) to inquire about media rights. If you receive permission to republish those materials, they may only be used with the stories in which they were originally published.
  • You have no rights to sell, license, syndicate, or otherwise represent yourself as the authorized owner of our material to any third parties. You cannot publish or submit our work for syndication to third-party platforms or apps like Apple News or Google News.
  • You are solely responsible for identifying and licensing third-party content, and The Yappie expressly disclaims any liability arising out of your unauthorized use of third-party content. The Yappie does not endorse and is not responsible for content found on websites that reblog or repost content by us.
  • You may not translate our stories into another language without The Yappie’s explicit permission. Contact Shawna Chen ([email protected]) for details.
  • You may not ask for donations on behalf of The Yappie or imply that donations to your organization support The Yappie.
  • You may not sell ads against our stories or on behalf of The Yappie. Ads you have already sold may accompany our stories.

If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected].
