The Yappie is published by Yappie Inc, a Delaware nonprofit nonstock corporation. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have. We may update it occasionally; when we do, we'll change the date above and, for anything significant, post a notice or email subscribers.
What We Collect
The only personal information we ask you for directly is your email address, and only if you choose to sign up for our newsletter or write to us.
When you visit the Site, we use tools including Google Analytics to track information about your use of this website, including details about your browser, operating system or device, your IP address, links that you click, and more. This information is not linked to your personally identifying information, such as your email address, unless you have specifically provided us with that information.
Cookies and Similar Technology
We use cookies and/or web beacons, and session identifiers, mainly so the Site functions properly and so we can understand, in aggregate, how people use it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.

How We Use What We Collect
We use your email address to send you the newsletter or communications you signed up for, and to respond if you write to us. We use data from Google Analytics and beehiiv Inc. in aggregate to understand how the Site and our newsletters are working. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles.
How We Share Information
We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the vendors who help us run the newsletter and analytics–currently Google, for analytics, and our email delivery provider beehiiv Inc.–strictly for those purposes.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed, or as long as we reasonably need it for the purposes above. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information at any time.
Where Your Data Goes
We're based in the U.S., and the information we collect is processed and stored here. If you're visiting from outside the U.S., including from the EU, UK, or Switzerland, your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States, which may have different privacy laws than where you live. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including your consent, for that transfer.
Your Rights
Wherever you're located, you can ask us to let you see what information we have about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message or by writing to [email protected]. We'll respond within a reasonable time.
If you're in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, you additionally have rights under the GDPR: to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict how we use it, receive a portable copy of it, object to our processing (including for marketing), withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We process your email address based on your consent when you sign up, and, where relevant, our legitimate interest in understanding how the Site is used. You can withdraw consent whenever you like.
If you're a California resident, you should know that Yappie Inc is a nonprofit, and nonprofits fall outside the definition of a "business" the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) regulates, so the CCPA's specific consumer-rights framework technically doesn't apply to us. That said, we extend the same access, correction, and deletion rights described above to everyone, including Californians, and we don't share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes, which covers what California's "Shine the Light" law is designed to protect. In keeping with the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), this policy lays out what personal information we collect, how we treat Do Not Track signals, and how to reach us to review or change your information — all above.
Children's Privacy
Our Services are not intended for children under 18 years of age. No one under age 18 may provide any information to or through the Services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are under 18, do not use or provide any information on or in our Services or on or through any of their features, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, or any screen name or user name.
